SAT阅读技巧：给长难句做减法

　　减去什么？

　　减去次要语法结构

　　例如：各种从句，做定语的分词结构，同位语等。

　　如下面这个OG历史中曾出现过的句子：

　　I believe the social changes which bring nearer to the same level the father and son, the master and servant, the superiors and inferiors generally speaking, will raise woman and make her more and more the equal of man.

　　句子比较长，但一旦我们把which所引导的从句先挑出来做减法，句子剩下的主要语法结构连在一起：

　　I believe the social changes （which bring nearer to the same level the father and son, the master and servant, the superiors and inferiors generally speaking,）will raise woman and make her more and more the equal of man.

　　即：一些（...）的社会改变会提高女性地位、让女性与男性之间越来越平等。这样一来，整个句子阅读起来就会清爽很多。

　　减去次要逻辑

　　（2）减去次要逻辑。

　　看个例句（同样也节选自OG历史文章）：

　　In speaking of masculine element, I do not wish to be understood to say that all men are hard, selfish, and brutal, for many of the most beautiful spirits the world has known have been clothed with manhood; but I refer to those characteristics, though often marked in woman, that distinguish what is called the stronger sex.

　　句子很长，我们是不是该一个词一个词地慢慢品读？显然，对于阅读理解本身就比较吃力的同学，考试时间不允许。大家不妨试着挑出这句话的主要逻辑结构NOT...BUT...，再减去次要逻辑FOR（因为）和THOUGH（虽然）

　　In speaking of (when I speak of/talk about) masculine element, I do not wish to be understood to say that all men are hard, selfish, and brutal, （次要逻辑for many of the most beautiful spirits the world has known have been clothed with manhood）; but I refer to those characteristics, （次要逻辑though often marked in woman,) (次要语法结构-从句that distinguish what is called the stronger sex.)

　　这样一来，把做减法后剩下的主要逻辑结构：not ...but...连在一起读，就不难发现：作者不是要说所有男性的不好（自私残忍），而是要说一些（男性的）特点的不好。
