SAT写作考试：Diction的用法和万能句型

　　SAT官方指南上有这样一句话“The response includes a precise central claim.”文章必须有一个精确的主旨句。

　　这句话的意思是在你的作文中必须提供一句清晰的主旨句，而且这句句子要让读者可以很容易就看到。这句主旨句的构成应该有两部分：原文的中心思想和作者使用了那些写作手法去支持原文的中心思想。

　　diction, 也就是word choice，指的是通过词汇的精心选择，读者能够产生场景效果或情感共鸣，作者达到加强自己观点的目的。

　　Example例子

　　(1) Finally, the author utilizes well-crafted diction to persuade his readers of minimizing the useof air-conditioning. (2) When describing Americans'habit of using air conditioners, he uses such expressions as "igloos" and "arctic air'' to highlight the staggering extent to which Americans have been using air conditioners for cooling home, offices and shopping malls. (3)In this way,he is suggesting that Americans'air-conditioner cooling for personal comfort or commercial reasons is beyond necessary, urging his readers to reflect on their exceeding use of airconditioning. (4) The strategy of utilizing carefully chosen words continues when he writes,"burning through fossil fuels in suicidal fashion." (5) Choosing the phrase "suicidal fashion" to emphasize the fatal consequences of overly using air conditioners, the author means to elicit fearfrom readers so as to motivate them to curb their excessive reliance on air conditioners. (6) By doing so, he adds more power to his argument that Americans should lessen their dependence on air-conditioning.
