PTE写作：被你忽视的扣分点——标点（二）

　　引号 Quotes

　　1. 用在引用句的前后。

　　例如：

　　Our teacher said, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”

　　“I don’t like her, ” she explained, “because she is far too proud.”

　　2. 如果引用句本身是叙述句而且位于一个问句之后，必须先用引号，再用问号。

　　例如：

　　Did he say, “I am going to college next year”?

　　3. 如果引用句本身是问句，则必须先用问号，再用引号。

　　例如：

　　Did he say, “Are you going to college next year?”

　　4. 引用句有两段或两段以上时，只在每一段开始时和最后一段结束时用引号。

　　例如：

　　“Mom and Dad did not come home with them because Sunday was parents’ day off; the boys did the housework and cooked the meal of the week, while Father and Mother stayed on for church service.

　　“But by the time diner was ready the boy had climbed into bed. The shoe had to be cut off his swollen and discolored leg. Why on earth hadn’t he told somebody? Go quick and fetch the doctor!”

　　5. 引用句中另有引用句时, 用单引号表示。

　　例如：

　　She said, “ I quite agree to the saying ‘To love and to be loved is the greatest happiness on earth’.”

　　注意：美式英文中，双引号在外，单引号在内，英式英文中恰好相反。

　　连字符 Hyphen

　　1. 连字符常用于词首（如：self-、ex-和all-）与后方单词组成复合词。

　　例如：

　　ex-husband（前夫）

　　brand-new（全新的）

　　poorly-dressed（衣着破烂的）

　　2. 当两个或两个以上复合词并用，且个复合词连字符后面的部分相同时，各复合词相同的部分只需出现一次。

　　例如：

　　I have forty- or fifty-thousand dollars.

　　I want to obtain the whole- or half-year lease of the apartment.

　　3. 连字符用于把字首和字尾分开。

　　例如：

　　non-nuclear

　　re-use

　　semi-independent。

　　4. 构成某些复合数字（在英文写作中，100以下的数字，一般用英文单词书写，不宜用阿拉伯数字替代）。

　　例如：

　　twenty-one during the years of 1949-1999

　　5. 有时作为名词的分数可以不用连字符，但所有作为形容词的分数均须加连字符。

　　例如：

　　one fourth（也可写作one-fourth）of those surveyed。

　　6. 连字符用于一个单词需要换行时，一般是按照音节，利用连字符断开单词。

　　例如：

　　ha-ppy，不可断为hap-py。或是根据发音来断词，但不要把单一字母留在行尾或行首。

　　需要注意的是，一页中最后一个单词，不能使用连字符将其分开置于两页。

　　缩略符 Abbreviation

　　在PTE写作考试中要避免使用缩略符的表达法，即 What's more，I'll 这类缩写要还原为完整形式（ a manager's job 这类所有格形式除外）。

　　例如：

　　People who can't afford to go to the theatre or concerts can afford to go to football matches.

　　要改为：

　　People who cannot afford to go to the theatre or concerts can afford to go to football matches.
