　　The graph is about three indicators in terms ofsocial and economic[b1] in seven American countries in 1997.

　　GDP per capita (USD) in the Bahamas was 13000, by which it was the largest. The next one was that in Argentina, which was about 4000 less than the first one. GDP per capita (USD) in Brazil, Mexico, Surinam and Jamaica maintained the middle position, with 4900, 4300, 3700 and 2600 respectively. That in Cuba ranked the last, which is about 5 times less than that in the Bahamas.

　　The adult illiteracy rate in Brazil stayed in the top position which was accounted for 16.8% in comparison with only 3.6% in Argentina. This was followed by that in Jamaica, with 15.2%, which was twice as much as that in Surinam. It is worth noting that the adult illiteracy rate of Cube and the Bahamas was the same (4.4%).

　　By accounting for 123 and 122 and 118 papers respectively, similar newspaper sales per 1000 people could be seen in Argentina and Surinam as well as Cuba. The figures for the remaining four countries varied from a low of 40 to a high of 97 papers.

　　Generally the higher the adult illiteracy rate was, the less the newspaper sales per 1000 people were. Besides, there are striking differences in GDP per capita (USD) and the adult illiteracy rate among seven countries. (227 words)
