每日素材笔记：SAT写作常用句型及词汇（三）

　　SAT写作是在申请文书的基础上进一步证明我们的写作能力的。学校对于学生写作能力的第一认识来自于申请时候递交的申请文书和标化考试的写作成绩。比如SAT写作，ACT写作等。改革之后的新SAT的写作与大学期间的paper类学术文章的写作有点类似，没有固定的主题，先阅读文章然后再进行写作，大学期间会有很多的paper要写，对于写作的要求会比较高。

　　国际学生尤其是中国学生因为课程体系的原因，写作能力普遍不是很好，那么SAT写作的分数可以让招生官对我们的写作水平的认识更加清晰。

　　1. reap

　　– v. 收获

　　E.g. Instead ofreaping the benefits of co-operation, Iran has been cut off from the global economy.

　　伊朗并没有从合作中获得利益，而是被全球经济孤立了。

　　reap容易和具象的crops搭在一起

　　但实际使用中，常用于搭配抽象的好处/利益/成果等

　　reap the benefit /reward /profit (of sth.)

　　“获得好处” 直译 gain the benefits of…有点尬，reap显得更生动些

　　2. honour

　　– v. 信守，执行（承诺）

　　E.g. Even Mr. Rouhani, who championed the nuclear deal, has begun to sound like a hawk. Having long hoped that Europe, at least, wouldhonour the promise of the deal, he is exasperated.

　　甚至，曾支持核协议的Rouhani也开始变得鹰派（主战）。他曾一度希望欧洲至少会执行核协议中的承诺，但现在他被激怒了。

　　honour

　　作n. 是大家熟知的“荣誉”、“阁下” (Your/His/Her Honour)

　　作v. 两个含义

　　1.“（尤指在公开场合）向…致敬” sb. are/feel honoured to do sth. （这个大家也熟

　　2.“信守，执行（承诺）”（熟词僻义需要补充

　　honour a promise/contract/agreement

　　3.keep/hold somebody/something in check

　　– 控制；限制；抑制

　　E.g. Mr Trump, a harsh critic of America’s foreign wars, therefore needs tokeep the likes of Mr. Bolton in check.

　　因此，严厉批评美国海外战争的特朗普需要对与Bolton相似的人（主战派）予以约束。

　　2.“制约”≈limit

　　SAT历史中，建国文献里常出现的checks and balances即 “（组织内部的）制约与平衡，制衡原则”

　　4. not least

　　– 尤其是（用于强调）

　　E.g.He will face pressure from hardline politicians at home and opposition in the region,not leastfrom Israel.

　　他将面对来自国内强硬派政客压力，以及该地区（尤其是以色列）的反对。
