AEIS英语作文高分句式练习（二）

　　AEIS作文从字数及深度来讲都比中国相同阶段的学生所要求的难度高很多。如何写好，怎么写出高分作文，一直是困扰学生的难题。文章布局要做好三件事：安排好层次段落，铺设好过渡，处理好开头和结尾。

　　Mention..., and what come to mind is...或：Mention..., and most people will think of...

　　Mention artificial intelligence, and most people will think of robots.But a more fitting image may be that of Janus, the Roman god of beginnings, transitions and endings, who has two faces looking in opposite directions.

　　提到人工智能，大多数人会想到机器人，但更贴切的形象可能是雅努斯（Janus）——执掌着开端、过渡和结束的罗马之神，他有前后两张面孔。

　　第一句先以“Mention..., and most people will think of...”这一结构引出robots，作为铺垫，然后通过转折“But a more fitting image may be that of...”引出真实的想法：Janus 雅努斯。雅努斯是两面神，有前后两张面孔，象征着人工智能利弊兼有。（But a more fitting image may be that of...中，that代指前面的image，意思是：更贴切的形象是...的形象。）

　　在作文开头，我们就可以用“Mention..., and most people will think of... But a more fitting image may be that of...”这一结构引出主题，比如：

　　Mention online education, and most people will think of convenience. But a more fitting image may be that of Janus, a Roman god who has two faces looking in opposite directions.

　　提到线上教育，很多人就会想到便捷，但一个更贴切的形象是雅努斯——一位罗马之神，他有两张面孔，看向不同方向。

　　这个句型的好处是，先通过“Mention..., and most people will think of...”引出一个无关紧要的事物/特征，起到铺垫作用，然后通过“But”转折，引出文章主题“a more fitting image may be that of...”，可以使文章更回环曲折，有嚼劲。

　　2017年的《经济学人》中也有一个类似结构的句子，同样用在了文章的开头：

　　Mention polygamy in Canada and what might come to mind is Bountiful, a suitably named town in British Columbia.

　　提到加拿大的一夫多妻制，你可能会想到不列颠哥伦比亚省的一个小镇Bountiful，这个名字起得很恰当。

　　我们可以从中提炼出一个句式：Mention... and what might come to mind is...

　　what might come to mind是what引导的名词性从句，可以写成 the thing that might come to mind “可能进入你脑海中的东西、你可能会想到的东西”，虽然是一个从句，但它在句法结构上是一个名词结构，在文中作主语。

　　come to mind是一个很生动的表达，物作主语，字面意思是“...进入你脑海中”，也就是“你想到了...”，比如：Her image keeps coming to my mind. 她的形象一直进入我脑海中（我一直能想到她的形象）。

　　come to mind也可以写成spring/jump to mind，更有活力。spring在这里是动词，表示“跳跃”。

　　这个句型虽然没有之前的句型回环曲折，但它以sth作主语，更加生动可爱有灵气。

　　英国作家扶霞·邓洛普 (Fuchsia Dunlop)在其美食著作《鱼翅与花椒》（Shark's Fin and Sichuan Pepper）中谈到了四川人爱吃辣的习惯，她是这么引入的：

　　Mention Chengdu to any Chinese person and the first thing they will say in response is almost certainly that the food is very spicy: ‘Are you afraid of chilli heat?’ (Ni pa bu pa la?) is the customary warning for travellers on their way to Sichuan.

　　跟随便哪个中国人提起成都，他们的第一反应几乎肯定是“川菜很辣”。去四川的路上，很多旅行的人都会收到一句警告：“你怕不怕辣？”

　　这段话作者用了类似的句型来引入“四川人爱吃辣”的主题：Mention XX to sb, and the first thing they will say in response is XX.

　　say sth in response类似respond，表示“回应”。

　　最后我们造个句子：

　　Mention the still-rampaging coronavirus pandemic, and what might come to mind is the strengths and gestures of gratitude that people have demonstrated.

　　提到还在肆虐的冠状病毒大流行，人们想到的或许是人们展现出来的力量和感激。
