　　关于“直截了当”的英文表达。

　　1.lay on the line

　　【原句】Oleg, it’s late, I’m gonna lay this on the line for you.(S04E06)

　　【翻译】Oleg已经很晚了，我就直截了当地说了。

　　【场景】Oleg在苏菲家用夜视镜看楼下超模，但Oleg已经有苏菲了，Max和Caroline都表示他这样做不好，并劝说他不要再这样了。

　　【讲解】

　　lay on the line：v. 付款;冒险。lay it on the line这个习惯用语的意思是坦率地说明。

　　on the line：冒极大的险;以某种方式;冒风险。

　　【例句】

　　He laid it on the line: if he came late again, he was going to be let go.

　　他说得很明白，如果再发生迟到的情况，就会被炒鱿鱼。

　　The question is…. what are you willing to lay on the line.

　　问题其实在于，目前你愿意放弃什么。

　　2.back up

　　【原句】The kitchen sink is backed up, too.(S04E06)

　　【翻译】厨房水池也堵了。

　　【场景】超模租客叫来Max她们，两人本以为超模是在邀请她们参加派对，但现实是厕所和厨房都出现了使用问题需要人修理。

　　【讲解】

　　back up：vi. (因积聚而)拥堵;堵塞。vt. 支持;援助;倒退;(资料)备份。

　　扩展clogged[klɑ:gd]：adj. 阻塞的;堵住的。

　　【例句】

　　Do you have any facts to back up all this?

　　你有可以证明这一切的任何事实吗?

　　Clogged pipes caused drain water to back up into the room.

　　水管堵塞，排出去的水倒灌入室。
