  在家长们心目中,老师是最重要的存在。不管是在幼儿园,小学,中学,还是外面的培训机构,每遇上一个好老师都会让家长直呼幸运。在英国,想当一个小学老师,是一件非常不容易的事。这也是直接关系着英国教育优势力量,吸引着越来越多的家庭备考UKiset考试留学英国私立学校。 

  什么是QTS?

  想了解英国的老师,QTS是家长们经常听到的一个词,但到底是什么意思?

  全称是Qualified Teacher Status,是英国的的教师执照,类似于中国的教师资格证。英国小学老师都是被培训教全科,知识丰富,博学多闻。想要在英格兰和威尔士的公立学校和特殊学校当老师,就必须有QTS教师执照。私立学校对QTS没有要求,但老师大多都是牛剑毕业生,或经验丰富。苏格兰和北爱尔兰的学校,也有相似的资格证,只不过叫法不一样。

  申请获得QTS的流程

  想要拿到QTS,本科学位和培训课程是必须的。如果已经有学士学位,想要拿到QTS,最常见的就是去读研究生教育证书PGCE课程,或学校直接培训课程。

  在英格兰,想要拿到教师执照,还必须要通过专业技能测试professional skills tests,而且GCSE的数学和英语科目必须达到C以上,如果打算教小学,科学也必须要达到C。

  另外,想要拿到QTS资格证书,必须要参加连续2个年龄段的培训,也就是:

  3-5岁 (幼儿基础阶段);5-7岁 (1-2年级);

  7-9岁 (3-4年级);9-11岁 (5-6年级);

  11-14岁 (7-9年级);14-16岁 (10-11年级);16-19岁(12-13年级);

  最终通过考核,英格兰由Teaching Regulation Agency颁发,威尔士由General Teaching Council for Wales颁发教师执照。

  获得QTS的途径

  想要拿到QTS,成为英国公立中小学的老师,可以通过以下课程:

  Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

  PGCE,也就是教育研究生证书,是最常见的方式。为期一年,一种专门为已有学士学位而未有受过教师培训,有志于加入基础教育行列的人士所编制的课程。

  School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT)

  主要是由当地的现任的教师组成的培训团队进行培训,获得QTS,适合有教学经验的人申请,时间为一年,很多学校的培训跟大学合作,在大学学习之后获得PGCE或者硕士。

  Undergraduate QTS

  主要针对3-4年的本科学位课程,内容中包含有QTS的。在课程过程中,同时教学实践,最终获得学位,也能拿到QTS。  

  什么样的培训?

  英国老师的培训,从1-3年不等,方式和时间都比较灵活。

  培训期间需要通过在两个不同教学阶段(key stages)、两间不同学校共24周的实习。

  在完成教育文凭 (PGCE) 期间,需要通过横夸所有主要科目共12次观课。

  完成教学文凭后,他们需要在正统学校全职任教1年年,并通过6次观课。

  About the standards

  关于教师标准

  These are the Teachers’ Standards for use in schools in England from September 2012. The standards define the minimum level of practice expected of trainees and teachers from the point of being awarded qualified teacher status (QTS).

  这是是2012年9月开始在英国学校使用的教师标准。该标准以获得教师资格(QTS)的观点出发,对学员和教师所做的最低水平实践期望的定义。

  The Teachers’ Standards are used to assess all trainees working towards QTS, andall those completing their statutory induction period. They are also used to assess the performance of all teachers with QTSwho are subject toThe Education (School Teachers’ Appraisal) (England) Regulations 2012, and may additionally be used to assess the performance of teachers who are subject to these regulations and who hold qualified teacher learning and skills (QTLS) status.

  The standards were introduced following the recommendations in the reports of the independent Review of Teachers’ Standards, chaired by Sally Coates. These reports are available from GOV.UK.

  Who are the standards for?

  The Teachers’ Standards apply to:

  l trainees working towards QTS;

  The National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) will use Part Two of the Teachers’ Standards, which relates to personal and professional conduct, when assessing cases of serious misconduct, regardless of the education sector in which the teacher works.

  Teachers make theeducation of their pupils their first concern, and are accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct. Teachers act with honesty and integrity; have strong subject knowledge, keep their knowledge and skills as teachers up-to-date and are self-critical; forge positive professional relationships; and work with parents in the best interests of their pupils.

  1 Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils

  PART TWO: PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

  A teacher is expected to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct. The following statements define the behaviour and attitudes which set the required standard for conduct throughout a teacher’s career.

  l Teachers uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school, by:

  ² treating pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher’s professional position

  l Teachers must have an understanding of, and always act within, the statutory frameworks which set out their professional duties and responsibilities.
